The Story: Gary Grainger began work with Joe Knaggs and Paul Reed Smith on the Gary Grainger Private Stock Bass in 2003. The final design has proven itself over fifty studio sessions, over two hundred concert dates and many trade-shows. Gary's remarkable credits include four years in John Scofield's band with Dennis Chambers, playing with Frank Gambali, George Duke, and completing innumerable studio dates with musicians such as Verdine White of Earth, Wind and Fire. Gary Grainger is a PRS trade-show clinician and plays bass in the Paul Reed Smith Band.

The Specs: The Gary Grainger Bass has an unusual pickup arrangement, using four single coils combined into two "separated" hum-canceling pickups. This provides the instrument with both a depth and clarity while simultaneously providing the instrument with a mid-range voice. Also incorporated in the design, is an optional manual compressor called a "ramp", a beautiful wide-thin 5-string neck, with a 16" fretboard radius, a specialized preamp, super thin Private Stock sain finish and a newly designed integrated neck joint in which the body and the neck are carved into one peice. This design includes a Private Stock carved, curly maple top with a mahogany back, rock maple neck, Brazillian rosewood fretboard an a custom made PRS newly designed 5-string bass bridge. Midrange, Bass & Treble Controls, Volume and Blend Controls. Special PRS 4 single coil humbucking pickups. Special Smooth-Playing Fretwire.
